Scholarship
Applications open April 28 and close May 12
PURPOSE
To assist team members and eligible dependents in reaching their highest potential through educational advancement opportunities beyond high school.
ELGIBILITY (Team Member/Applicant must meet all requirements listed to be considered.)
* For a Carmel team member or eligible dependent (spouse, child, grandchild) to apply, the Carmel team member must have been employed for a minimum of one year, in good standing, and employed by the application deadline. For rehires, cumulative service will be considered on a case-by-case basis. (Department Heads are ineligible).
* The team member must have met the minimum hours worked (to be an applicant or have an eligible dependent apply): Full-time: 1,500 hours worked, Part-time: 900 hours worked, Seasonal: 450 hours worked
* The team member must have an active status when funds are distributed.
* The applicant (either the Carmel team member or eligible dependent) plans to enroll, or is enrolled, in any accredited college/university/trade school as a full-time or part-time student for a minimum of six (6) hours per semester for undergraduate studies. Postgraduate studies are also welcome to apply. Short-term programs or certifications will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
* The applicant has maintained a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or above, subject to verification.
* The applicant (and Carmel team member, in the event of dependent application) demonstrates the potential to make a worthy contribution to the community and has excellent moral character.
THE SCHOLARSHIP AWARD
* Scholarships are awarded for one year.
* Students may reapply each year, subject to Committee approval and availability of funds.
* The scholarship award may be used for tuition, fees, and books at an accredited college, university, or trade school. Short-term academic programs and certifications will also be considered.
* Scholarship payments are made directly to the school.
APPLICATION SUBMISSIONS ARE DUE BY MAY 10 AND INCLUDES:
* Complete the e-application. It will be submitted to Human Resources to review eligibility.
* Supporting documentation must be emailed to HR, Attn: Karen Rose at [email protected]. This includes acceptance letter, GPA, financial statements, essay (see below).
* Type an essay (500 words or less) answering the following prompt: "What are your educational or professional long-term and short-term goals and what steps do you plan to take to meet them?"
* Supervisor recommendation must be emailed directly from supervisor to Karen Rose in Human Resources.
* You will be notified when your application packet has been submitted to the Committee.
* You will participate in an interview.
SELECTION PROCESS
* The Committee will consider the following criteria in selecting the recipients of scholarship awards: academic achievement, financial need, special talents, leadership, character, and recommendation.
* All scholarships are awarded on an objective and non-discriminatory basis.
